Student Counseling Office

One of the fundamental human needs is the need for physical and psychological security and peace. Peace of mind is the first step toward subsequent success and progress. Today, achieving psychological security is not easily possible given the various stresses we face. Emotional and financial issues within the family, workplace, educational environment, facing important life decisions and choices such as choosing a spouse, field of study, career, as well as mental and psychological preoccupations, conflicts with parents and professors, mismatches between individual talents and academic or career paths, and dozens of other problems all clearly demonstrate the necessity of utilizing counseling services.

Students are among those who, due to their specific social and academic situation, are exposed to numerous stresses and psychological pressures. Factors such as changing residence and leaving family for the first time, expanding social connections, living in dormitories and issues arising from cohabitation with different cultures, adjustment problems with a new environment, and so on are considered sources of pressure.

Therefore, the University Student Counseling Office offers counseling services to help and guide students in solving problems and enhancing their abilities and adjustment skills.

Activities and Services of the Student Counseling Office

The Student Counseling Office of Qom University of Technology presents its activities with the aim that "prevention is better than cure" and in line with maintaining and promoting students' mental health, offering services at three levels of prevention as described below:

 Increasing students' knowledge and awareness

1.regarding important life issues such as marriage, career, and communication with others, through lectures, educational workshops, film screenings, producing psychological brochures, and administering various tests of intelligence, aptitude, personality, etc.

Services at the secondary prevention level

2.which include students who have or are at risk of emotional and psychological problems. The goal at this level is to prevent the spread and intensification of disorders. Activities at this level include: conducting research (including assessing the mental health status of new students), implementing a student counselor liaison program in dormitories to help and guide new students in solving problems and enhancing their adaptive skills, continuous communication with the university's education office to assist students facing academic difficulties, as well as social workers' efforts to identify and cover students at risk of social, economic, and psychological harm.

Activities at the tertiary prevention level

3. include all counseling and therapeutic services provided to students who refer to the counseling office. In addition, social work services to follow up on clients' issues and problems related to family, dormitories, academic affairs, and, if necessary, home visits and assistance in meeting basic needs are among the main duties of this unit.

All students, especially those who notice changes in their mood and emotions and need help and guidance from a counselor in dealing with others and solving personal problems, can refer to the counseling office. It should be noted that clients of the counseling office are individuals interested in their own lives who have sought help from qualified professionals to maintain their adjustment; seeking guidance and help from others itself is a sign of a person's mental health.
